EORC in collaboration with MOST is planning to celebrate World Space Week 2016 on 06 October 2016 in a half day program at MOST New building Conference Hall.
Each year, the World Space Week Association (WSWA) selects a theme for the upcoming World Space Week (WSW) to provide a focus of the activities and events that take a place throughout the world, during 4-10 October. The 2016 World Space Week Theme is: “Remote sensing: Enabling Our Future” which celebrates Earth Observation from Space for the betterment of the human race.
WSW 2016 celebration emphasis on the role of Earth observation satellite, besides monitoring the effects of climate change, to focus on the benefits of remote sensing applications such as:
- Environmental observation leading to land use optimization, sustainable agriculture, detection of pollutants;
- Disaster prevention and management providing vulnerability assessment, early warning alerts, impact assessments, management of first-aid and first responder resources;
- Peace keeping such as the prevention of conflicts and for illegal traffic mitigation; and
- Commercial uses such as mapping, analytics, data and other uses translate into economic benefit
In Ethiopia world space week celebration has been started since 2012. It is now for the 5th time that WSW is going to be celebrated colorfully in Ethiopia.
Entoto Observatory and research center in collaboration with Ministry of Science and Technology(MOST) will celebrate WSW 2016 on 6th of October 2016 with a half day program with different activities such as panel discussion, Scientific presentations and Space Fairs at the new building of MOST.
Different groups of Participants from governmental and non-governmental offices, Schools, Space clubs, Universities, MOST and EORC Staff and students are expected to attend the WSW 2016 celebration event.
The WSW 2016 organizing committee is therefore warmly inviting all interested to attend and celebrate world Space week together.
